CSL Social Hour, Feb. 22, 2019

We are glad to have Allan Axelrod as this weeks guest speaker. Allan will talk about “Gaussian bandit problem” and “Graduate Employees’ Organization (GEO)” this Friday, Feb. 22th 3pm at CSL369.

Bio: Allan Axelrod is a member of the Graduate Employees’ Organization and his research focuses on the explore-exploit dilemma in machine learning. His talk will be in 2 short parts. The first part will be a brief overview of his working paper on the Gaussian bandit problem, which is foundational to deep reinforcement learning methods where Gaussian noise is used to distort training samples. The second part will be about recent gains made by the Graduate Employees’ Organization on behalf of graduate employees on campus and what additional gains can be together as graduate employees.
